CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC swimming and diving teams will make the short trip across I-40 this week for the 2024 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro.
 
The five-day event begins on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and concludes Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The preliminaries and finals will be streamed each day on ACC Network Extra.
 
A year ago, the UNC women tallied 813 points throughout the five-day competition to finish fourth among the ACC’s 12 teams. The men’s team took eighth overall after tallying a cumulative score of 514. 
 
Senior Aranza Vazquez Montaño enters the meet as the reigning ACC champion in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving competition. She was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Women’s Diver after becoming the first diver to sweep all three events since 2008. Vazquez is the only current member of the Tar Heels to earn all-conference accolades a year ago.
 
Freshman Ellie Joyce and sophomore Lara Phipps will compete in the women’s diving competition while senior Alex Hart and freshman Carter Loftin and Rodolfo Vazquez Montaño will participate in the men’s championship events.
 
Carolina features numerous swimmers ranked among the ACC leaders in their respective events heading into this year championship meet. 
 
On the women’s side, sophomore Michelle Morgan ranks eighth and 14th in the 500 and 1650 freestyle, while Lily Reader ranks 11th in the 1650 free.  Junior Greer Pattison is among the leaders in the conference in the 100 back, ranking sixth, with Emma Karam ranking 15th in the 200 back. U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier Skyler Smith comes in at No. 10 in the 100 breast and Katja Pavicevic ranks 15th in the 200 breast.
 
Sophomore Louis Dramm ranks second in the 400 IM on the men’s side. Freshman Sebastian Lunak enters his first ACC Championship meet ranked No. 4 in the 200 fly while fellow freshman Ben Delmar comes in at No. 9 in the 200 breast.
 
The UNC Men’s Swimming and Diving Team posted a 5-2 record during the dual meet season and the women registered a 4-2-1 mark.
