FEDERAL WAY, Wash. –The No. 4 USC women’s swimming and diving team, led by four-time Pac-12 individual champion Kaitlin Dobler, won three titles during on Friday, March 1 at the 2024 Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships.
USC kicked off the third finals session with a fifth-place finish by Claire Tuggle in the 400y IM, clocking a season best 4:08.01. During prelims, the sophomore posted a 4:09.61. USC’s Justina Kozan (4:10.97) and Ella Flowers (4:13.20) finished 10th and 13th, respectively.
Senior Caroline Famous turned in another phenomenal day of swims, finishing fourth in championship final of the 100y fly in PR 51.64. Trojan Anicka Delgado finished seventh in 52.01, also a season-best time. Famous returned just a few events later to touch second in the 100y backstroke in 50.90. The finish marked Famous’ first trip to the Pac-12 podium.
Trojan freshman Minna Abraham captured her first conference crown on Friday evening, winning the 200y freestyle A-final in 1:42.42. Abraham, who helped USC win the 200y freestyle relay last night, led the conference as the only athlete to touch under the NCAA A cut in the final (1:42.84). During prelims, Abraham clocked the fastest time (1:43.70) to solidify the center lane for the championship final. At just 17 years of age, Abraham becomes just the fifth Trojan to win a Pac-12 200y freestyle title. Laticia Transom won the event last in 2020.
For the fourth consecutive year, Dobler won the 100y breaststroke, this time touching first in 57.51. With the win, Dobler becomes the first Trojan to win four consecutive 100y breaststroke titles and just the second in the Pac-12’s history. The six-time individual Pac-12 champion won the event by almost two seconds and was well under the NCAA A standard time (58.02).
The Women of Troy closed out the evening in dominant fashion, claiming the 400y medley relay for the first time since 2009. The Trojans proven quartet of Famous, Dobler, Delgado and Abraham won the relay in 3:27.28, out-touching Cal by .77 seconds. The win marked the second consecutive relay win for the foursome, with the group capturing the 200y freestyle title last night.
The Women of Troy continue the championships tomorrow, with prelims set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
WOMEN’S DIVING:
USC had a solid day in the women’s 3-meter competition, with Trojan Grace Lee qualifying for her first ever conference championship final. Lee finished eighth on springboard with a score of 279.05, contributing 22 points to the Trojans team score.
USC fifth year Nike Agunbiade won the consolation final of the 3-meter competition, recording a score of 331.05. Fellow Trojan Lily Castanon finished fifth with 264.65 points.
The Women of Troy continue action tomorrow with platform prelims set to begin at 12 p.m. PT.
MEN’S DIVING:
Trojan sophomore Laurent Gosselin-Paradis captured his third Pac-12 individual title on Friday, winning the men’s platform competition with 407.75 points. The Trojan outscored his opponents by nearly 30 points to defend his 2023 title in the event.
Trojan Robert Gref also reached the consolation final of the platform diving competition, tallying 285.20 points.
