Cambridge, MA — On night one of the NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center the WPI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are sitting pretty. 
 
The men’s squad is in first place with 97 points thanks to the diving duo of Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) and Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY), who combined for a 2-3 finish in the 3-Meter Dive to close out night one of competition. The women’s team sits in fourth place with 52 points after just one event. 
 
Masiero finished in second with a career high score of 423.10 while Corrente was right behind in third with a career best score of 420.75. Both finishes were the first podium appearances for the diving duo. 
 
The women’s relay team of Andrea Wu (Redmond, WA), Kristina MacLeod (Jackson Hole, WY), Lada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA) and Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA) kicked off the meet with a podium finish in the 800 Free Relay. Wu set the pace and Foltz raced home as the team finished with a time of 7:45.90. 
 
The women’s squad of Kylie Herbstzuber (Medfield, MA), Anna Callaghan (Yorktown Heights, NY), Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME), and Kaitlyn Grove (Cheshire, CT) took home fifth place in the B Final to bring home another 12 points to the total. 
 
On the men’s side of things, the Engineers followed right behind and came away with a fourth place finish in 6:55.35 as Aidan Greenfield (Northport, NY), Matt Crane (Groton, MA), Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA), and Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA) teamed up for the fastest time of the season and 38 team points. 
 
The B squad of Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA), Austin Aguirre (Santa Maria, CA), Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) and Fraser Milligan (Middlebury, VT) came away with a second place finish in the B Final to add another 18 points to the team total with a time of 6:57.71. 
 
The Engineers continue competition at the NEWMAC Championships on Friday afternoon. The events for the day include the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 400 Medley Relay, and Women’s 1-Meter Diving.
