NEW YORK CITY — Gov. Kathleen C. Hochul is hoping to get more New Yorkers in the water, and is planning to put significant state money behind a plan to provide more places for people to safely swim.
In an announcement from New York City on Friday, Hochul said the fourth pillar of her State of the State address this year will focus on improving access to swimming facilities at state parks and natural waterways. She said the initiative is driven by the fact that drowning is the leading cause of death for children under 4, and climate change will mean hotter weather and more demand for swimming spots into the future.
