Carole Laporte came 2nd in her age group for the 1000m freestyle
The Manx swimmer competing in the Ice Swimming European Championships says she’s ‘really proud’ after finishing second in her age group and 11th overall in her 1000m Freestyle race yesterday.
Carole Laporte has been spending the weekend in Romania swimming in waters colder than 5°C.
The St Ninian’s High School teacher finished in 15:55.57 secs, improving on her time at the GB Ice Swimming Championship in Cheltenham a month ago, gaining 19 seconds.
She came just 0.6 seconds behind Sian Clement, who won the age group medal for Team GB.
“I didn’t have a second chance so I just had to go for it and do my best.”
Later today she’s taking part in the relay race for Team GB.
“Unfortunately the sun wasn’t shining… so it was a bit cold.”
Carole described to Manx Radio how the race unfolded:
Carole hopes to earn a place in the International Ice Swimming Association World Championships in Italy in 2025.
