Scherer Sets Program Record, Among Four Tribe Medalists at CAA Championships Day Three – William & Mary Athletics – William & Mary Athletics

HAMPTON, Va. – William & Mary swimming saw another day of fantastic performances at the 2024 CAA Championships as Ellie Scherer brought home her second individual event medal while setting a program record in the 100 Breast. Lindsay Juhlin and Aiden Bond each earned their second podium finishes and Kat Vanbourgondien rounded out the podium times for the Tribe. 

Bond also posted a new freshman record for W&M men’s swimming, overtaking the previous 200 Free record which was set on day one of the CAA Championships by David Yune.
 
100 Fly
Lindsay Juhlin finished on the podium with her 53.10 time in the 100 Fly, earning a silver medal in a second event after placing in the 200 IM in Friday’s competition. Her time was the fifth-best in program history and she now ranks second in the event all-time, just behind current teammate Sophia Heilen. Heilen also swam in the championship final, posting a 53.89 in the evening session to place fifth overall for the Tribe.

Lauren Klinefelter and Erin Langenburg each qualified for the consolation final in the 100 Fly as Klinefelter made a 55.36 swim and Langenburg finished just behind with a personal-best 55.42 mark to take sole possession of the No. 16 all-time ranking in the event.

Freshman Flynn Truskett advanced to the finals, earning a spot in the C-finals heat in which she swam a 55.44. Clara Bodnar put up a 56.84 time and Meghan Rourke made a solid 57.17 time in the prelims.

A trio of Tribe men’s swimmers advanced to the consolation final in the 100 Fly. Sophomore Logan McDonald finished in 48.21 to not only enter the program’s top-16 rankings, but land at No. 6. Senior Gavin Lamoureux made a personal-best 48.46 time and Kent Codding touched the wall in 48.64.

Alex Valliere just missed a finals qualifying time with his 49.88 swim, topping his previous best time in the 100 Fly by nearly four tenths of a second.
 
400 IM
In the consolation finals, Kaitlyn Conover-Emmert finished fourth in her heat, posting a 4:25.36 time good for a 13^th all-time ranking in program history. Lauren Tucker also advanced to the consolation heat, making a 4:30.59 time in the evening.

In the C-final, Taylor Stockard cut her prelims swim by over two seconds for a 4:28.88 time and Devin Genderson followed in the next place with a 4:30.11 time. Sarah Rice posted a 4:35.59 finish.

Three men advanced to the finals in the 400 IM. Freshman Zach LeMay recorded a 3:58.42 time to lead the Tribe swimmers and break into the top-16 program rankings in the 400 IM at No.16. Fellow freshman Thor Dyke posted a 4:00.40. Jono Bennett rounded out the Tribe’s 400 IM finals performances with a 4:01.26.

Noah Spain, the junior, shaved over seven seconds from his seed time, posting a 4:06.27 swim in the 400 IM.
 
200 Free
Freshman Aiden Bond made another podium finish, following his 50 Free silver medal time from Friday night with a bronze finish in the 200 Free with his finals time of 1:36.88. He also set a freshman record in the 200 Free with his prelim swim of 1:36.47, which is the fifth-fastest 200 Free swim in program history.

Two more freshmen men made the finals as David Yune finished in the consolation heat with a time of 1:39.39 to rank 15^th all-time at W&M and Ian Cullicott posted a 1:39.53 time.

Colin Mamaril, who posted an alternate-qualifying time with his 1:40.23, Will Glass’ time of 1:40.28 and Eugenio Massari’s 1:42.12 finish rounded out the position players for the Tribe.

A pair of women’s swimmers appeared in the 200 Free finals as Sarah Dunham earned a consolation-final qualifying time and Kiersten Dagg advanced to the C-final. Dunham’s 1:51.37 cut nearly .4 from her prelims time. Dagg posted a 1:52.71 finish.

Kelsey Katt finished in 1:54.30 as an alternate qualifier and Zoe Arakelian’s 1:54.32 swim was just one place behind Katt.
 
100 Breast
In an incredible feat, Ellie Scherer earned her second individual gold medal in three days, making an NCAA B standard 1:00.84 time to earn the championship title in the 100 Breast. She set a program record, taking .06 off of her own previous program record time.

Finishing just outside the top three, Lindsay Juhlin had an impressive 1:02.27 swim to finish fourth in the event and jump two spots into a third all-time ranking in the W&M record books.

Brock Rempe and Logan McDonald each posted NCAA B standard times as well, finishing back-to-back in the championship heat of the 100 Breast. Rempe put up an even 54.00, just .07 shy of his own program record swim, and McDonald posted a 54.01 time, marking the second- and third-best times in W&M’s history in the event. Cole Younger earned a consolation finals qualifier in the morning, posting a personal-best 55.63 swim in the evening session.
 
100 Back
Kat Vanbourgondien, a Tribe senior, made her first individual podium finish of the weekend with a 54.39 time. Freshman Julie Addison also swam in the championship final of the 100 Back, posting a 56.10 time to enter the program’s top-16 at No. 12.

Caroline Burgeson put down a 56.33 time in the consolation heat.

An impressive five of the Tribe men’s swimmers advanced to the finals in the 100 Back as Conor Sokolowsky finished first in the heat with a time of 48.06.

Bryce Rouzie launched into the program event rankings to No. 5 with his finish of 48.41. Kent Codding posted a 48.79 time, while Micah Lowe raised his ranking to No. 11 as he finished in 49.13 and Aaron Tingley jumped to No. 14 all-time with his 49.35 finish to round out the individual events of the day.
 
200 Free Relay
The women’s 200 Free Relay team of Caroline Burgeson, Flynn Truskett, Sarah Dunham and Meghan Rourke posted a 1:31.81 time to finish fourth in the event with the seventh-best finish in Tribe history.

On the men’s side, also placing in fourth in the 200 Free Relay is the team of Aiden Bond, Alex Valliere, Logan McDonald and Gavin Lamoureux with a time of 1:19.67, marking the ninth-best swim in the program.

Up Next
The Tribe will resume competition at the 2024 CAA Championships for the final day of the event on Saturday. 
 
Prelims will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Finals are slated for 6 p.m., on day four.  teams will compete in the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 200 Free Relay. Finals are slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, following the prelims.
